Here he is. The long awaited bouncing baby boy. We all think he is absolutely gorgeous. What more can the proud gramma say.
Needing to use up that left over pureed pumpkin I searched the web for a muffin recipe that I could tweak......and I found one. Mix together dry ingredients large bowl You can of course, pat out the dough to make cut out biscuits. Libby, the black lab wonder dog, and I let Kati sleep late this morning. Making muffins at 6 am tired her out. LOL I decided to check out the high school were Kati is going tomorrow to vote the man who will be president. I have found that you can take the girl out of the country and put her in the city but she still thinks horticulture, botany, entomology........ The school yard was a lovely arboretum. Ginkgo trees are one of my favorite and despite the fact that these were females and have smelly (real smelly) fruits the locals must love them also. One of the things I really like about Louisville is all the great plant material that doesn't survive up north. The magnolias, ivy trees and english ivy hanging everywhere. My project for the day - covering bebo's basket with fabric. This basket was used first by my grandmother for her children. My mom, Eleanor, was born in 1920. I in turn used it for my children, hanging it from the bedroom ceiling where we could easier give it a gentle push in the middle of the night to rock the kidlets back to sleep. If that didn't work we turned on WCNY and listened to classical music. I first rescue this basket after my grandfather passed away back in 1968. At that time it was filled with old postcards and photographs. Eventually I found some ash splints to replace the broken ones. You can see the new splints - they are still lighter in color. AND - the finished product. Nothing fancy but I didin't cost a penny and THAT is the best part. I love making and creating and SAVING money. God is so Good. Today Kati and I made SIX WEEK MUFFINS - of course they probably won't last six weeks! I left my recipes at home so turned to my favorite source of info - the world wide web - I love that place!!!! A wonderful hidden place in Lousiville right in the suburbs is Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve. I came across this area one day while surfing the web and couldn't wait to visit. Now that I am down here for at least a month I thought --- why not. So I had Kati and Bob drop me off this afternoon and off I went. Back in Utica this is a rare find. Years ago I learned of the tree while at Eliza Cole Smith girl scout camp in North Utica. We called it a mitten tree because the leaves looked like --- mittens, some with thumbs and fingers -- but its real name is Sassafras Tree and has a lot of practical uses. Maple trees yes, but they just don't look as lovely as they do in New York. Mostly muted oranges and yellows. Growing up we always called these trees widow trees because if you hid inside during a violent storm and the wind caused it to topple you would be no longer. However, the term really refers to big broken hanging branches. This tree was amazingly huge. Another beautiful day. The sun was shining and the sky was blue begging us to go for a walk. And that we did. We walked down to the small shopping center and found a book store that called us inside. It didn't take us long to find the children's section. What great books they had. Like this one that has all kinds of feely things inside. Looking for Richard Scary It is a beautiful sunny day in Louisville. I did what I always wanted to do. Walk to the grocery store with my little pull behind cart, buy dinner and walk back home. It gives me time to talk to God while getting some exercise. |
